Description

Green River is a safe and comfortable place, both physicaly and emotionally. With lush meadows, quiet forests, crystal clear streams and peacefull mountain overlooks in Western North Carolina, this is a unique setting for a peer group of bright, young naturalists to grow together. There is no nature deficit disorder here. There is a deep sense of ecological respect and a compassion for one another.

Campers live in cabin groups of seven with their respective counselor. Each cabin is a duplex adjoined by a central bathroom. Campers sleep on double-decker bunks.

Each camper's health and safety is of the utmost importance to us. The camp infirmary is staffed with a registered nurse and counselors and mentors are first-aid and CPR trained and/or certified.

The vast majority of our summer camp program occurs on private, protected land, and our camper to staff ratio is less than 3 to 1. A camp radio system allows communication between base camp and hiking or camping groups and a small fleet of large, safe school buses provides camper transportation throughout the preserve.
