Description

Our community is made up of 90 campers, 45 staff, and 15 counselors-in-training. We represent a diverse group of races, nationalities, religions, and economic backgrounds. Typically, we come from at least twenty states and ten countries. Camper ages range from 9 to 15 years. We live in cabin groups of eight campers, three staff, and often a second year staff trainee. All staff, including directors, work in activities. Most staff are in college, but the range is from 17 to 70. The median age is usually 22-23. Typically, seventy percent of the staff return from previous summers.Food is important, and ours is good. We grow some of our own, and buy quality meats and produce, organic when we can. Most meals are cooked from scratch, and we offer a full vegetarian option every meal.Sangamon is built on a picturesque Vermont hill farm. We own 150 acres of sunny pastures and cool woods, and swim happily in our spring-fed 25-acre lake. The heart of the camp is the early 19th century farmhouse and barn, which house the dining room and some activities. Campers live in simple pine board cabins with a fieldstone fireplace, lit by kerosene hurricane lanterns.

This is an incredible place for boys, it is difficult to send any child off at first, but it is great that they can try whatever activities they want, with so many choices, they cannot get bored. Staff are so friendly, and the first time I met them, I was surprised by how many international staff there are, it is a great way to introduce your son to a diverse group of people. The facilities are nothing special, but they are everything anybody needs, they are simple and charming (for a few weeks). All-in-all your son will meet incredible adult role-models from all walks of life, and great friends hopefully for years to come, I'm fortunate to have found this place, and can't imagine going another summer without it.
