Briarwood Marine Science Center, located in Monument Beach, Cape Cod, serves as a field station for marine and environmental studies. The center enables the Schools to expand their offerings during the academic year as well as to provide summer sessions for young people from around the country. Other schools and non-profit organizations may also rent the facilities.
At Briarwood, students discover horseshoe crabs, sea stars, eelgrass, and periwinkles to be their classmates. The course of study integrates life science, technology, mathematics, and a surplus of fun into age-appropriate lessons. Younger students investigate habitats by hiking nature trails and combing the beach, while older students can be found in the lab observing plankton or learning about shark anatomy.
The summer sessions allow students to explore various ecosystems more in depth; however, whether attending a two-day experience during the school year or a week-long program in the summer, Briarwood makes marine biology approachable and relevant. Campers return with an appreciation for marine life, allowing them to embrace a wider scope of opportunities and broaden their selection for future studies or careers.
