The groundings began as the Gary Austin(formerly of san Francisco's "The Committee") Workshop in 1972.As the improvisation classes became increasingly popular,a core group of performers began to showcase their material at various spaces for invited audiences,including The White ouse ans the Improv.



The first performance by the newly incorporated non-profit organization known as the Groundings was in 1974 at its most "permanent" temporary home,downstairs at ralph waite's oxford Theater in Hollywood (now the met Theater).

Come learn the basics of improv from our talented Groundlings Instructors. Using fun theater games and exercises, we will teach you the same skills that helped our alumni go on to SNL and MadTV.
