The YPCCA Summer Camp runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 2:45 each day and meets
at East Hampton High School in East Hampton, CT. Every morning, the entire camp meets
for Morning Watch. This is an activity run by one of the staff members to get everyone ready for our day. Usually Morning Watch is a game or improvisational activity.
Following Morning Watch, mornings are spent in workshops of each child's choosing. Workshops offered in the past include: Show Choir, Music Theater Chorus, Comedy Improvisation, Monologues, Audition Seminar, and Jewelry Making. Throughout the course of the camp, students will be able to participate in four different workshops.
In addition, the entire camp meets once a day to rehearse for a production number included in our Parent's Night performance. Last year's production number was "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine" from the Tony Award winning musical, Hair.
Afternoons at camp are spent in rehearsal for our musical. Rehearsals include vocal work, choreography and blocking the show. All actors may not be rehearsing at all times so it gives campers some good time to socialize.
All students at YPCCA perform onstage by participating in the show and Parent's Night performances. For those teens interested in a leading role, auditions are held a few weeks before camp and all roles in the show are open. Auditions, however, are not mandatory and those students who do not audition will be featured in the ensemble. There are also ample
opportunities to learn behind-the-scenes skills involved in theater work. In past years, YPCCA has offered workshops in Makeup, Sets, Costuming and Writing for the Stage.
We end the day with a short session of Drama Games before our 2:45 dismissal. Students bring their own lunch and juice is provided. We also have a half hour outdoor games period for kids to get some fresh air and sunshine!
