POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 12, 2010) – For the third time in his illustrious volleyball career, Phil Tully has earned All-America honors. The Lexington, Kentucky-based American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that Tully was selected by a national panel of coaches to the AVCA All-America Second-Team.



Tully, who was named an AVCA First-Team selection as a sophomore and a junior, was joined by juniors Justin Brubaker of Philadelphia Biblical University and Cal Palumbo of Springfield along with UC Santa Cruz senior Brad Sullivan as the only three-time recipients honored.



The selections were made by the AVCA Men's Division III Volleyball All-America Committee: chairperson Charlie Sullivan (Springfield College); Tim Byram (Endicott College); Jonah Carson (University of California, Santa Cruz); Patrick Dorywalski (Stevens Institute of Technology); Allison Gunther (Baruch College); Keith Koch (Medaille College); and Craig Kolek (Rivier College).



Tully, a 6-6 hitter for the Brewers, hails from Huntington Station, N.Y. The NECVA Metro Division Player of the Year and three-time NECVA First-Team All-Conference selection, Tully sits among the nation's leaders in hitting percentage and ranks third nationally in kills per game.

Named NECVA Metro Division Player of the Year and First Team … Named AVCA National Player of the Week (3/1) after earning 21 kills against Bard and 25 against Ramapo ... Named NECVA Metro Division Player of the Week on 2/1 and 3/1 … Ranks 5th in NECVA and nationally in kills per set (4.81) … Leads Vassar in kills per set with 4.72, total kills (332) and attempts (725) ... Ranks second on the team in attack percentage (.311) ... Named MVP for a second straight year at the Vassar Invitational and led the Brewers to the championship for a third straight year ... Has 20 matches with 10 or more kills and 17 matches with 15 or more … Has recorded 20 or more kills six times, including a season-high 29 in an upset over Baruch (4/1) and three straight matches against Bard (2/24), Ramapo (2/27) and New Paltz (3/6) ... Has a season high 29 kills against Baruch (4/1), 27 kills vs. New Paltz (1/27) and 26 kills vs. New Paltz (3/2) ... Had 25 kills against Ramapo ... Had 22 kills in upset of then No. 9 nationally ranked Philadelphia Biblical (2/19) … Ranks third on the team in digs (140, 1.97) and has had four matches with 10 or more digs, including a career-tying 14 digs against New Paltz (1/27) ... Had a season-best .654 attack percentage (18-1-26) against Newbury in the season opener (2/20), .486 against Bard (21-4-35) … Has 15 matches where he hit better than .300 ...
