The Gardner-Webb University offense has developed into one of the most dominating offenses in the Big South Conference. Gardner-Webb has enjoyed capturing two Big South Conference Championships. Over the last 10 years, the GWU offense has averaged nearly 400 yards and 28 points per game. Those figures have also ranked the Dogs in the top 15 nationally three times and consistently ranked them in the top third of fcs football. This success has also produced 4 All-Conference quarterbacks and 13 All-Conference receivers.
Know for his ability to teach and relate to quarterbacks and receivers, Coach Joe Pizzo has been a perfect fit for Gardner-Webb’s Red Alert spread offense – which utilizes philosophies from the West Coast offense, other popular professional and one-back set offenses.
A former professional quarterback who was drafted by the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers after an All-American career as Mars Hill College, has tutored quarterbacks and receivers at several levels with great success. In addition to coaching stints at Gardner-Webb University (1996-present) and Mars Hill, Coach Pizzo has coaching experience on the professional level and brings a high level of understanding from his experience under center and on the sidelines. Three of the top five passers in the school’s history have learned under Joe Pizzo at Gardner-Webb University.
