The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team, seeded ninth at the Atlantic 10 Championships, have advanced by a 4-0 final over eighth-seeded Rhode Island Friday morning at the Kings Point Sports Club.
The Niners captured the doubles point with match wins at the top two spots. Senior Ana Spivakovsky and freshman Alexandra Zinn won 8-4 as the top doubles pair, while junior Gabi Vergara and freshman Anna Ekelund took an 8-1 victory at number two.
In singles play, Charlotte won the requisite three matches to advance in the tournament. Sophomore Andrea Rivera lost the opening set at number two, but rallied to victory in a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 result to clinch the match.
Senior Kimber Redfern won in straight sets at number three, 6-3, 6-2, while Vergara took a win at number four, 6-3, 6-4 in Charlotte's team victory.
The Niners will facetop-seeded Xavier at 3:30 p.m. Friday for a chance to get into the semifinals on Saturday.
