Even with our really disappointing upset in Athens, UCLA women's tennis can still look back on a great 2010 season. It's hard to look at our NCAA result and try to make a positive out of a very negative result, but sports can be impossible to predict. Even when a certain result is expected, even assured, anything can happen on any given day on a tennis court. Duke showed no sign of backing down after losing four out of the six singles sets and battled to the very last point (the match ended in a third set tiebreak at court No. 2). Though I wish we had managed to come out on top that day, our season still had many, many highlights. Most importantly, we ended the year with a 21-4 record. We also beat USC twice and beat Sanford and Cal back-to-back at home. And not to be forgotten, we made history by sweeping every event at the Pac-10 Championship in Ojai.

Our trip to Athens started off with a wrong turn down a one-way street and we should have taken that as a sign of things to come. Lucky for us, we still got to spend a night in one of the greatest hotels in Georgia, the Georgia Gameday Center. More of an apartment than a hotel, this place was complete with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room with leather couches, a full kitchen as well as laundry machines, and three flat screen TV's. It was absolute luxury, even for us LA girls. Unfortunately, we were only able to spend one night at this magical accommodation, except for the three girls who got to stay an extra week for the NCAA Individual Championships.

Yasmin Schnack ended her senior year by reaching the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships with partner Andrea Remynse. The two battled through three rounds to reach the semifinals for the first time ever and finished the year ranked fifth in the nation. Their fellow teammate Noelle Hickey reached the round of 16 before falling to third-seeded Trojan Maria Sanchez. Despite being unseeded, Noelle finished her year off on a high note by achieving the coveted All-America status.

So now that the season is over the only thing for us to do is work harder than ever this summer to come back to campus in September ready to start the whole regime again. The team, which finished ranked No. 6 according to the latest ITA rankings, will be ready to go this fall, especially with freshman Courtney Dolehide joining us. So even though we didn't end up as awesome as we thought we would, UCLA women's tennis isn't giving up on a national title and will have to grind through another year to get another shot at the trophy.
