Brandywine High School Head Coach Willy Miranda recently completed his 26th season in charge of the Bull Dogs. Over his 29 year coaching career, he has led his field hockey teams to the state tournament eighteen times, earned nine Blue Hen Conference Championships (including each of the last four years) and a state title. Willy was voted the Coach of the Year for 2008 by the NFHCA. He also had the honor of coaching the 2008 Delaware Player of the Year and took his team to the state championship game in back-to-back years in 2007 & 2008. He has molded the Brandywine program into one of the top hockey teams in the state making it synonymous with first rate Delaware Hockey.
Coach Miranda, founded the Annual Turf Bowl played at University of Delaware, allowing local players the opportunity to compete on an artificial surface under the lights in a college setting; 2008 marked its 10th anniversary. Twelve years ago he also founded the Brandywine girls’ varsity lacrosse team, which has won six conference championships since its inception. His field hockey and lacrosse players have gone on to play for elite college programs, USFHA Futures, and the AAU Junior Olympics.
