Beth Gottungis the Montclair State Head Field Hockey Coach. She has led the Red Hawks to victory since her hire in 2002, accumulating a 99 - 37 overall record. The 2008 team finished the season 11-7 and 3 members earned conference and regional honors.
Coach Gottung's prior years include; two NCAA Tournament bids, a single season school record in wins and earning Coach of the Year accolades by the NJAC and NFHCA in 2003.
Prior to Montclair, Beth was the Assistant Coach for both field hockey and women's lacrosse at Trinity College. Gottung graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor degree in history from American International College. At AIC, Coach Gottung was a four-year starter and a three-year captain in field hockey and a three-year starter and one-year captain in lacrosse. She earned Northeast-10 All-Conference honors in field hockey in 1999 and was selected as an Academic All-American following the 1997 and 1999 field hockey seasons and the 1999 lacrosse campaign. Beth served as Head Lacrosse Coach for Montclair from 2002- 2006, until recently shifting all her focus to field hockey.
Joining Beth's staff is Assistant Coach Samantha Howard. Samantha completed a stellar playing career at Lynchburg College as a two-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) First-Team selection scoring 34 goals and 30 assists. She helped the Hornets to two consecutive ODAC champinships (2006-07) and three straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances (2005-07). In addition she was a two-time NFHCA Southern Region pick and was named the Most Valuable Player of the ODAC Tournament in 2007. Samantha was a standout in high school, leading W.T. Woodson High School to the Virginia AAA state championship in 2003 and participated in the USFHA National Hockey Festival.
