Sunshine Programs is a therapeutic and educational summer day program for boys with mild emotional difficulties. The program offers a clinically oriented atmosphere which provides supervised recreational activities and learning experiences designed to promote self-esteem and emotional well being. It enables children to have a structured, socializing experience which can supplement the typical school program. The program also provides respite to families who are burdened with the daily care of a special needs child.
In addition to the therapeutic milieu, every child participates in a coordinated activity and educational program. Each individual program is developed in conjunction with the appropriate school personnel who design and implement the child's overall academic plan. A typical program might consist of positive experiences which target improvement in social interaction skills, impulse control, basic living skills, physical fitness, reality testing, peer relationships, fine and gross motor coordination, and self-esteem. By participating in such activities, the child can maintain and enhance his emotional well being and he does not experience the social and academic regression that usually occurs during an unstructured and unsupervised summer break.
Come visit our five day residential and school program affiliate. Every child who is enrolled at Reed Academy attends our summer program. However, we also admit other children into our summer program who become a part of our summer day program. There are usually between 10-15 day children and 18-22 residential children. The child to staff ratio is 1-4 during the camp day.
