Description

Located in a quiet, secluded cove on Santa Catalina Island, Campus by the Sea invites its guests to step away from busyness and experience God's rest. Accessible only by boat, the 70 acres of land is laced with wooded hiking trails and scenic coastal views that have renewed generations of Christ's disciples. Owned and operated by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, the camp offers programming for a wide variety of audiences, including Junior High, High School, College, and Family camps. Open February through Thanksgiving, the facility can serve a maximum of 220 guests at any one time.

The Lord Jesus invites His disciples to periodically come away to a quiet place and rest. As the stormy pressures of the modern world increase, so grows the importance of places like Campus by the Sea. Come to experience God's love, and grow in love for Him. Come to learn to love His Word. Come to grow in love for His people of every culture and ethnicity. Come to find out His purposes for you in His world. Come to Campus by the Sea.

The ministry of Campus by the Sea is one of hospitality. We provide a restful place where our guests can come to listen for God’s voice through his Word, his Creation, and his People. Our mission was born in 1951 under the leadership of Mel Friesen and InterVarsity students from USC and UCLA. Like Lazarus, we experienced a death of sorts beginning in 1969. Because of the Jesus movement on campus, student work was growing rapidly and the rustic camp was unable to accommodate the growing numbers. In addition, the weight of responsibility for operating the camp rested fully on the shoulders of the regional leadership of InterVarsity in Southern California.
