The UCLA Marina Aquatic Center is one of the premiere small boat sailing facilities in California and the home base for UCLA Sailing. Hundreds of students attend classes each year, starting with beginners' Catalina Capri 14.2 dinghies and progressing to more advanced Lasers and Vanguard 15's. With construction beginning in 1965, the Marina Aquatic Center replaced a wooden boathouse structure on La Ballona Creek with a cinderblock boathouse at its current location and expanded its offerings to include sailing.
