"Mishannock" is derived from the Native American tongues to mean "Morning Star", a traditional symbol of the Blessed Mother. Since Camp Mishannock was founded in 1947 by the Sisters of Divine Providence, its mission has been based on Gospel values found in the living tradition of the Catholic Church. In a typical camp environment, the staff fosters love and community, offer examples of discipleship in the image of Christ, and provide a social atmosphere that is cohesive in strength and demonstrative in its values to those entrusted to our care.
